Nikki’s daughter just turned 12. For her birthday I wanted to do something special for her but also wanted to keep it on a budget.
She didn’t want a big party, she just wanted a little get together with her friends. She loves Paris, and she loves macaroons… me too! Ha!
I put together a Parisian dinner party for her and she LOVED it! I wanted to show you how I did it in hopes to inspire you to get creative and go for it next time you have a special occasion.
These ideas can also be great for baby showers (just change to pink to blue) or bridal showers, stick with creams and pinks.
We are lucky to have a chandelier in our dining room but I have done this before on any handing lamp or you can even use tape and hang decorations from your ceiling if you don’t have a lighting fixture.
I made pom poms out of two shades of pink tissue paper.
Here’s what you will need for the pom poms.
Tissue paper, about 10 sheets per pom pom. Scissors, if you have scissors that cut a pattern that’s ideal but if not you can cut a pattern at the edges by hand. Wire and fishing line.
Start out by cutting the longer length edges off the tissue paper making a pretty pattern.
Next fold the paper back and forth making folds about 3/4 inch wide.
Take your wire and secure it around the middle
Fan it out and carefully separate the paper, this gives it the shape of a ball.
Once you are done, string with your fishing line and either hang from a chandelier or tape the top of the line to the ceiling.
I like making different sizes in different colors, and I hang them at different lengths.
To finish up the chandelier I bought pink and white pearl strands, $3 per roll, one roll of each and strung it all over.
There are lots of cool trimmings you can use for this, think of things like ribbon, strands of plastic beads or even trims you would find on pillows.
I also added some baby blue tassels all over the chandelier to give it a french Marie Antionette inspired look.
Next I bought a few yards of fabric at $4 a yard and covered my table.
I chose a pink satin but get creative! Prints are great too! I used double sided tape under the table to keep it in place.
Using scraps of the fabric I sewed the edges and made a bow to go around the bottom of the chairs.
If you don’t want to sew it, you can just fold the unfinished edges under and fake it.
I finished it off with the extra pearl strands I had left over.
For the flower arrangements I used three small vases and filled them with plastic pink diamonds, you can get these at any party store for $5 a bag, I used two bags, I filled my vases with them and added water, these look adorable and they hold your flowers in place like floral foam would.
I rotated between light pink and creamy colored roses and used hot pink carnations as a filler.
I got a steel on them! I used 4 dozen and I bought them at my flower mart for $10 for 2 dozen. You don’t have to use as many as I did but with that deal of course I had to buy more!
I made a Happy Birthday sign using compute paper and paint and glitter and hung it on the wall.
Last but not least, with the help Nikki’s oldest daugter we made a cake in the shape of a poodle with Macarons on top. We started by tracing the poodle on to a big piece of paper.
Then baking a large cake. We cut out the paper into the poodle shape and placed it on top of the cake and cut it out.
Next we ices it with light pink frosting. (a few drops red food coloring into white frosting)
We added the Macarons all over and put frosting on top of them using a tip and ziplock bag. We used get frosting to do the face and write the name, along with the Eiffel Tower. The dinner was a big hit! She loved it and I had had a blast putting it together! I know you will too and the best part is it cost less than $70 for everything, even the cake!
