Choosing the right flowers is important. I like to try and choose flowers that have a long life. Here are some flowers that live the longest.

Good Choices for Long Lasting Cut Flowers

images2-150x150* Alstroemerias (6-14 days) Very popular, even though most people wouldn’t know them by name.

However they are sensitive to fluoride in water and ethylene gas. Keep away from produce.

images3-150x150* Delphiniums (7-14 days) You can’t beat Delphiniums for shades of blue and purple.

Like Alstroemeria, these are sensitive to ethylene gas.

Remove the anthers to prevent pollen from coming in contact with clothing and staining.

images4-150x150* Roses (6-12 days) The classic.

And with over 20,000 varieties, they never get boring.

images5-150x150* Sunflowers (6-12 days) Generally available in late summer.

Sunflowers can be top heavy, so use a vase that can support them.

images6-150x150* Lisianthus (6-12 days) also have a good vase life, between 7 and 10 days.

One of the greens that you could couple these with would be Bells of Ireland which also last between 7-10 days.
