As excited as you are to start a beautiful arrangement wait… You need to get them ready first!

– Cut your flowers at a slant, about 2 inches from the bottom of the stem.

– Use a large bucket (those big plastic paint buckets are great or a Rubbermaid storage bin works great too.)

Fill up the bucket a third of the way with warm water, not hot, just warm.

 

 

 

photo-18-e1328340279717-225x300– Next you need to treat the water, you can skip this step if you want but it helps the flowers stay healthier and helps them to live twice as long.

You can get the preservative packs from florists if you want or you can make your own! Just add in a cap-full of household bleach, a tbsp of lemon juice, and a tbsp of sugar.

This kills the bacteria and keeps them healthy.

 

 

flowersinbuckets-300x225– Let them sit for at least 4-5 hours before starting. If you can leave them overnight that’s even better.

This gives the flowers time to soak up everything, plus sometimes when you buy flowers they tend to be a little dehydrated.

Now you’re ready to start making your fabulous arrangements!
