pink-ribbon1Everywhere you go this month, there is pink, and I love it! It is truly amazing seeing all of the overwhelming support for breast cancer awareness month! From NFL players in pink socks and shoes… to dogs in pink bandanas. On a personal note, my grandmother was a breast cancer survivor, and my step-mom is in remission from ovarian cancer! So this cause is near and dear to my heart. No matter where you live, what you do, your gender or your age, we all have been effected by cancer. I wanted to find a way to join the cause and help even on a tiny level, to spread awareness and raise funds for breast cancer. In How2Girl style, I am throwing a ladies luncheon at my home this weekend. It’s no big surprise that there will be lots and lots of pink, which is great for me, since it’s my favorite color! Aside from flowers, decor, and food, I wanted to incorporate pink into flirty, girly cocktails for my friends to sip on while we learn all about early prevention, self exams, and what we all should watch out for and be aware of.

SodaStream
recently contacted me to see if I’d  like to try out the new SodaStream Play machine. I remember when these first came out and I always wanted to try one. The thought of not having to go to the store to buy liters of soda, and turning simple tap water into your own custom soda, with no clean-up, that takes under 30 seconds… and all while being environmentally friendly? Sign me up!!!

Using this revolutionary machine, I have dreamt up two fabulous cocktails for my luncheon.

photo-12First up…  The How2Girl Pink Grapefruit Martini.

This cocktail is sweet with just the right amount of zest!

Here’s what you’ll need:

sparklingnaturals_pinkgrapefruit2 ounces of SodaStream Sparkling Naturals Soda in Pink Grapefruit

2 ounces fresh pink grapefruit juice, plus raspberries for garnish

1 ounce grenadine

1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice

3 ounces vodka

*Made from cane sugar and other all-natural ingredients, new SodaStream Sparkling Naturals make great-tasting `better for you’ sodas. Sparkling Naturals contain no artificial flavors, no artificial colors and no artificial sweeteners, and do not contain any preservatives, making them a perfect, sparkling, natural soda alternative for the entire family.

Directions:

Using your SodaStream make a batch of Sparkling Natural Pink Grapefruit Soda. Next shake the grapefruit juice, Sparkling Naturals, lemon juice, vodka and 1 tablespoon crushed ice in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with grapefruit and enjoy!

photo2-2Last but not least…  The How2Girl Signature Strawberry Mojito.

This refreshing combo of fresh fruit and fizz will have you feeling like you are at a spa on a tropical vacation, without having to leave the house.

Here’s what you’ll need:

strawberry

2 c SodaStream Strawberry Soda

6 strawberries quartered

1/2 bunch mint leaves

3 large limes

1 c white sugar

1 c rum

8 c crushed ice

raspberries for garnish

Directions:

  1. Pour 1/4 to 1/2 inch of sugar onto a small, shallow plate. Run one of the lime quarters around the rim of each cocktail glass, then dip the glasses into the sugar to rim; set aside.
  2. Whip out your SodaStream, and make yourself a batch of Strawberry Soda.
  3. Squeeze all of the lime quarters into a sturdy glass pitcher. Toss the juiced limes into the pitcher along with the mint, strawberries, and 1 cup of sugar. Crush the fruits together with a muddler, to release the juices from the strawberries and the oil from the mint leaves. Stir in the rum and Strawberry Soda until the sugar has dissolved. Pour into the sugared glasses over ice cubes, add in a raspberry and enjoy!

Enjoy these fun, flirty and most importantly “pink drinks” and stay tuned for lots of fun pics and tutorials from my event which will be up next week! Have a great weekend.
