photo-2-2-e13682143476251It’s hard to find really cute aprons, at least it is for me, so I thought, why not make my own?

These also make a wonderful Mother’s Day gift and the best part is it’s going to cost you less than $10!

picture-711-1Depending on how long you want your apron will determine the amount of fabric you need.

I wanted mine on the shorter side so I bought 1/2 a yard of printed cotton fabric for the main part of the apron.

I bought 1/4 yard of fabric to make my trim and tie.

I started out by cutting my main fabric out to the shape I wanted my apron, making sure the measurements were even on both sides. Next I folded the top and bottom, pinned and sewed to make a nice seam.

picture-331-1Taking my solid fabric for the trim and tie, I folded inside out, measured and pinned in place at 4 inches all the way across.

I made 2 long pieces. After sewing in place I pulled the fabric through, making a nice seam, I folded it on the seam line and ironed it to get it flat and even.

Next I cut the 2nd piece in half and sewed it to the ends of my first piece to make it long enough to be able to tie.

Last but not least, I finished it off with some pretty lace trim. It took less than 20 minutes to make and is an adorable gift for any woman you know that cooks or bakes!
